But now an international team of scientists has now identified the possible animal that spread this virus.
These scientists analyzed data from the genetic samples of animals in this market in Wuhan and they believe that the animal that caused the virus that spread this global epidemic is a mammal called a raccoon dog.
The market was closed on January 1, 2020 following the outbreak of the virus and genetic samples from the animals there were collected 2 months after the closure.
This data was released last year by Chinese scientists for a global database.
After analyzing this data, the research team confirmed Covid-19 in the raccoon dog samples.
The coronavirus has also been discovered in samples from other mammals such as civets.
The discovery does not conclusively prove that raccoon dogs triggered the Covid outbreak, but researchers believe that it is more likely.
